on dancing
Why do humans dance?
Or an even more astute question…
Why don’t humans dance?
Humans are animals, and many animals dance and feel rhythm
the cranedances to find partnership, conveys their spirit to another in the form of dance as the communication medium
the beedances to speak, language abstractions were not necessary for communication
the apeour closest biological relative, dances to feel, chimps drum and sway when they feel wonder and awe
uswe are dancers by nature, and always have been. It’s only in the past hundreds of years we’ve been taught to hold it inIncluding our closest ancestors
Genetically, we are programmed to move. Scientists believe these physical reactions to sound hint that the basic biological urge to move rhythmically has prehuman origins shared with our common ancestors millions of years ago.12
Yet we’ve locked away dancing
Behind judgements,
Behind a societal feeling that self expression is weird.
And in only the spaces designed and curated enough by our collective efforts
Do we feel safe enough to dance.
Dancing must be tied to our egos
And this is a learned thing.
That means, it can be changed
For me, this happened when my ego shattered,
while on the dance floor of possibly the greatest place to experience humanity’s taming and channelling of energy,
I had an unlock that feels supernatural.
I stopped dancing for others
and began dancing for myself.
At that moment, all fear of being perceived or, worse, judged disappeared.
And when my soul was completely silent, the rhythm took over..
When one energy that’s different perceives another, it can be uncomfortable, frightening even, because it’s unfamiliar.
Most of us don’t fully understand our own energy, or “being” in the more classical definition.
So when an undiscovered part is being quantized, it is uncomfortable.
It forces energy to take a state in the beautiful chaos that we normally live in.
